Our Last Day of Grade One

The last day of Grade One was an extra special one for Division 16.  Not only was it our last day of school, but we would be the last class in room C201 in the Junior Building before seismic updates begin this summer.  The next time we get to enter the building will be a year or two from now!
Here are a few pictures of our last day together!
Learning like the "olden days"!  We used the chalkboards to do our math and writing!
We can count by 5's to 100!

Climbing the wall!

Taking a break with our friends.
Our class was on "litter patrol" this last week!

Everyone pitches in to make sure our school grounds are taken care of.

Our classroom on the last day - Good-bye room C201!

         Happy Summer Everyone!
     See you Tuesday, September 8th!

VanDusen Garden Trip

Here are a few pictures of one of our last field trips of the year.  We went to VanDusen Gardens.  We enjoyed going on a scavenger hunt, searching for all kinds of things in nature, and then had a great time "getting lost" in the maze!
"We can check that off our list"!

We stopped and smelled the roses!

We finally found the turtles!
The pond was filled with lily pads!

Hmmm?  How do we get out of the maze???
We fearlessly ran through the maze with our friends!  Some of us even helped some adults find their way out!

Southlands Farm Field Trip

Today our class went to visit Southlands Farm.  It is on 51st and Balaclava in Vancouver.  There are bees and chickens and goats and horses and lots of other things on the farm!  Here are some pictures of our trip today.

We saw the bees up close!

We got to taste the honey right out of the hive.  "This is the BEST honey I ever tasted"  said one of the kids!

We got to taste the different lettuces in the garden.

We ate just like goats - we got down on our hands and knees and bit off the lettuce with our teeth!!

We visited the chickens.
We got to hold the chickens if we wanted to.
We followed the goats around.  This is Blueberry!
We petted the horses.
We made bread in the cob oven.
Hot out of the oven!  We couldn't wait to eat our bread!!

After we got back to school we wrote about our day at the farm.  Enjoy our stories!

Stanley Park

Today our class went to Stanley Park!  We walked ALL around Lost Lagoon - 2.5 km!   The weather was perfect and everyone had a wonderful time!  We should all sleep well tonight!!

Looking at all kinds of wildlife!

We saw some beautiful swans.
After lunch, we went down to the beach!  We dipped our toes into the water and looked for all kinds of "treasures".

Collecting water!

Some of us were just happy digging in the sand!

A couple of children made an Inukshuk to say "We were here"!

Banana Smoothies

We had lots of ripe bananas last week so we decided to make some banana smoothies!

First we cut up the bananas.  We practiced using knives safely.

Then we put the bananas and the rest of our ingredients into a jug.  Our ingredients:  bananas, yogurt, milk and vanilla

Next the adult turned on the blender and we "whizzed" our mix together until it was smooth!

The smoothies are ready to enjoy!

Mmmmm!  They were good, AND  good for us!

Sports Day

Friday, May 15th was Sports Day.  Here are our memories of the day.
Before we wrote, we talked about what grade one writing should look like...

-we need a good beginning, middle and end
-we use details to make our stories interesting and so the readers can "see what is happening in their heads"
-we put our ideas in order
-we have capitals at the beginning of sentences and periods at the end
-we have spaces between words
Boy, that is a lot to remember!!!
Enjoy our pictures and stories.
